Value of Culture

The influence of local culture has increasingly become an important tool to evaluate the feasibility and impact of development work. In addition, an understanding of a community’s shared heritage of values, creativity, skills and aspirations carries the insight and potential to truly enable an initiative’s long-term success and sustainability.

For this reason, the Foundation aims to mainstream cultural heritage as part of a holistic vision for rural transformation. Our goal is to empower the Nabha community by promoting greater awareness of its cultural identity and to harness local aspirations, resources and talents to address basic issues of health, environment and livelihoods. Thus, we have embarked upon a Cultural Documentation Study of Nabha’s rich culture expressed through language, oral histories, behaviour, art forms, myth and legends, skills and crafts, rituals, festivals and cuisines.

We plan to showcase this cultural identity through museums, awareness programs, exhibitions, concerts, websites, media and heritage walks to facilitate links with tourism development and employment opportunities.
